Duiker - Blue
The Blue Duiker (Philaneomba Monticolais) a small antelope; in fact, the smallest of the duiker family, although the females are slightly larger. The Blue Duiker is characterised by its blue-grey coat, large eyes and small ears, and flat forehead. The tail has a row of white crinkly hairs on either flank. Both sexes carry short sharp horns, around 5cm long, which are often concealed by a tuft of hair. The Blue Duiker feeds on fresh leaves, fruit and flowers but although they prominently eat vegetation, Blue Duikers are known to eat birds eggs and insects - making them omnivorous.
